SWISSMEDIC
To protect humans and animals, Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products, ensures that only high-quality, safe and effective medicines and medical devices are placed on the market in Switzerland.
Swissmedic is the central Swiss supervisory authority for therapeutic products. It is a public service organization of the federal government with headquarters in Bern. It is independent in its organization and management and has its own separate budget. Swissmedic is linked to the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA). The Agency Council is its highest body and represents Swissmedic in contacts with the FDHA and the Federal Council (the Swiss government). It also approves Swissmedic's annual budget, annual accounts, and annual report.
Swissmedic's work is based on the Swiss Law on Therapeutic Products (LTP). The LTP and the first implementation ordinances came into force on 1 January 2002 - at the same time as Swissmedic started operating. Swissmedic currently employs 280 people (FTE).

WHO's objective, as set out in its Constitution, is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health is defined in WHO's Constitution as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
WHO is governed by 193 Member States through the World Health Assembly. The Health Assembly is composed of representatives from WHO's Member States. The main tasks of the World Health Assembly are to approve the WHO programme and the budget for the following biennium and to decide major policy questions.
